Travel agencies as a link of development

Thessaloniki confirmed its position as a key destination for the Polish tourism market by welcoming over 70 members of the Polish Chamber of Tourism during their Annual Conference, held in the city from September 28 to October 2, 2025. Within the framework of the Conference, FedHATTA hosted a dinner for the Polish delegates, showcasing the city’s dynamics and the strategic contribution of Greek travel agencies as a connecting link with the Polish market.

The Conference was organized by the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization, in cooperation with the GNTO’s Foreign Office in Poland and the Polish Chamber of Tourism.

The presence of dozens of top executives from the Polish tourism industry, representatives of leading travel agencies, airlines, and media outlets from Poland in Thessaloniki underscores the strategic nature of the cooperation between the two countries in tourism, highlighted by the new direct LOT Polish Airlines route between Thessaloniki and Warsaw, operating year-round.

The contacts made by FedHATTA provided another opportunity to strengthen the existing collaborative ties cultivated over the years, as well as to exchange views on the new opportunities that open up for enhancing tourism flows from Poland to Thessaloniki, Northern Greece, and the country as a whole – and vice versa.

The importance of direct flight connections with Poland, as well as the opportunities for showcasing Thessaloniki and our country as an attractive and quality destination for Polish travelers, was emphasized during the meeting. Special attention was given to the qualitative dimension of the Greek tourism product, the forms of alternative tourism that can find fertile ground in Northern Greece, and the strengthening of collaborative relationships between professionals of the two countries.

The evening progressed in a particularly warm atmosphere, demonstrating once again that hospitality is a strong advantage of Greece and a means of developing long-term partnerships. The discussions and contacts established create sound expectations for further development and strengthening of the presence of Polish tourists in Greece, which has steadily increased in recent years.

FedHATTA President Lysandros Tsilidis stated: “It is particularly gratifying to see areas of Greece that have the potential for organized tourism making decisive steps towards extroversion. When we bring tourism professionals from abroad, they, in turn, become our best ambassadors. What they will see and experience here, they will carry to their market, so that Thessaloniki and, more broadly, Northern Greece can gain the position they deserve on the travel map. In this effort, Greek travel agencies are the key link, as they will create organized packages, build partnerships, and bring travelers. The combination of extroversion and professionalism is the key for the Polish market. Both sides are keen for further visits from the mission to other regions of Greece, through our cooperation with ECTAA.”

The conference program included:

  • An event at the City Hall of Thessaloniki welcomed by the Mayor and President of the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization, Stelios Angeloudis.
  • Presentations on thematic tourism from the General Director of the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization, Kyriaki Oudadzi, and city break destination from the Tourism Deputy Mayor, Vasilis Gakis.
  • B2B meetings with local travel agents and hoteliers.
  • An official Gala Dinner at the Olympic Museum of Thessaloniki, with a tour of the “Olympic Games” exhibition and a musical program.
  • Familiarization experiences with the culture, gastronomy, and monuments of the city, as well as a full-day excursion to Pieria.
